D&G light blue original perfume

Original Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
The original light blue has been out for a very long time now. It is your sort of classic light scent. It is summertime you want something very fresh, very light and that’s what Light Blue is. It is an Eau de Toilette. It is basically a lemony green apple smell and a lot of people think it is just lemon, but it is not. It is quite apple-y, I would say more apple-y than lemon. Also, Light Blue is not an oceanic scent. Yes, the branding and everything looks like it is very watery oceany but it is not. Light Blue is more citrusy. D&G Light Blue comes under quite a lot of criticism because it is not a massively cheap perfume. Unfortunately, being an Eau de Toilette, the longevity is not so great.

D&G Light Blue Intense Perfume

It is a stronger version of the original Light Blue. Light Blue Intense has a bit more of amber wood and a slight little bit of floral in it. But mainly just a stronger lemon and a stronger green apple. It lasts longer along with a much better projection. Light Blue Intense is still very fresh and breezy even though it says “Intense”. I would definitely recommend Light Blue Intense over the original.

D&G Light Blue Escape to Panarea perfume

What really excites me about the D&G Light Blue range, is the flankers! Each year they bring out a different version of Light Blue, often it’s focused around a particular area in Italy which I think is very romantic. My absolute favorite from all the flankers is Light Blue: Escape to Panarea. If you have been to the Mediterranean or anywhere around the globe really at the same latitude as Mexico. You will know that these certain pink flowers that show up on the packaging are everywhere. They just seem to grow everywhere in that type of climate, so I really associate them with Italy, Spain & Mediterranean climate and I think that this has captured their smell quite well. Panarea is a tiny little island off the west coast of Italy, between Italy and Sicily. This perfume smells like that island, I haven’t actually been to that particular Island, but I really find it has that Mediterranean smell.
What it has in it is tonka bean and I love tonka bean because it helps perfumes last longer and this of all the Light Blues is a fragrance that you wear and get compliments. It is much better in quality, longevity, and projection than normal. It has a note of pear as well which is another one, I really like. Pear of course is fresh along with a note of Bergamot, like the lemon of the original but for me it is not as sharp as the original one. It is more like a breezy freshness like walking out in the Mediterranean and smelling those beautiful pink flowers. I really like it and I think it’s perfect for summertime. Despite being an EDT it performs like an EDP which is a surprise, it’s not super heavy, performs better & smells expensive.

D&G Light Blue Love in Capri

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Love in Capri. Capri is another Island just off      Naples again on the west coast and I would say that Love in Capri is kind of like the original Light Blue. It is got that freshness of the original. It comes in this very blue bottle which I really like and basically it has a honeysuckle note in it which makes it more interesting than the original. The original Light Blue is just quite a plain freshness, though Love in Capri having honeysuckle makes it a little bit more interesting and a little bit more floral yet very fresh with lemons and cedar wood. In the dry down the cedar wood does come through along with the honeysuckle, also there is a bit of orange in here as well. But overall, I would say it’s a honeysuckle lemon combination, definitely fresh of course. If you like the original and you are looking for something slightly different, then I’d say give Love in Capri a try! Because it’s similar to the original and a little bit more complex & interesting.

D&G Light Blue Sunset in Salina

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sunset in Salina. Salina is an area in Sicily, the large Island that the boot of Italy is kicking into the Mediterranean Sea. Sunset in Salina has that quite a darker sort of orangey sunset colored liquid, helping it stand out as being different to the original Light Blue. You know in the hot countries as the sun is setting and you start getting the smell of all the plants and everything around you, that is what this kind of smells like. It is got orange blossom and freesia. I really get the freesia, but it does not have the lemons notes or the apples notes of the original Light Blue. So, it is quite different, it has a white floral note but it’s a fresh white floral with a little bit of violet in. Though it requires quite a few sprays, perhaps if it is a very hot humid evening in the summer, this is the kind of perfume you

could spray before you go out for dinner. It would be very pretty and feminine but still have that fresh and humid smell to it. It smells like humid climates to me, like when you gosomewhere tropical you get off the plane and you are hit with humidity and how the outside smells in those countries. That’s what this reminds me of.

D&G Light Blue Love Is Love

Now we are on to this new release, the brand-new 2020 Light Blue: Love Is Love. This one is not named after a place in Italy. This is a sort of playful modern scent; it is not as serious as some of the others which are quite sophisticated. I would say this is a bit fun. It is a fruity one, again it is quite like the original Light Blue though more similar than the other flankers. It is basically the original with a bit of raspberry note, so it is lemon, raspberry, apple, berries it also has a bit of whipped cream note in as well. But it is not overly sweet, it is a fresher kind of sweetness so this would be great for a very daytime innocent playful type smell. Like you could really cover yourself in this and it would not be overpowering and yet very refreshing! I think it’s fun and playful and if you were to decide between this or the original Light Blue, I would say get this because it’s just a bit more fun and a bit modern with the raspberry.

D&G light blue sun

Another flanker in this list is the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: Sun. Now this was cool when it came out in 2019. It is a fun summery smelling scent. It has coconut in it and frangipani along with lemon and apple freshness of the original. But it is like a tropical version of the original Light Blue. A fun holiday version of the original with the coconut and which helps with the longevity. So, this is a really good choice if you like tropical perfumes and coconut perfumes. If you’re looking for something like a fresh coconut, then I definitely recommend this because it is really fun.

D&G Light Blue Dreaming in Portofino

 next we have the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: Dreaming in Portofino. Portofino is a small harbour town right at the top of Italy or almost into France along a coastline that has like Monaco and all these nice very exclusive places. This one is nothing like the original Light Blue. It is musky powdery with notes of litchi so totally different. There is no lemon, there is no apple but because of the litchi it does feel citrusy and has freshness to it. This one is very popular and people really like this, I personally I’m not that keen on powdery perfumes so I never ended up buying it, but I always recognize it as being a very good quite unique smelling perfume. And it does have longevity & projection, unlike the very original Light Blue. So, if you are into more creamy, powdery, fresh scents, then this would be good for you.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Italian Zest

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue: Italian Zest is another awesome fragerance by Dolce & Gabbana. I love lemons and it is a lemonier version of the original Light Blue, however it does not last like the original Light Blue and could be easily confused with the original. It is good that it’s lemonier but then after 10 minutes it’s basically gone which is the major drawback of this perfume. I really like the packaging, the branding and the bright yellow color of the bottle and everything but it’s not a good flanker in my opinion unfortunately.

There are quite a few different interesting versions of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue out there for you to try out. Personally, I do think Escape to Panarea is the most interesting one and my personal favorite from the list.
